The Palace on Wheels has 14 fully air-conditioned deluxe saloons, each having 4 cabins attached with bath and shower facilities. Named after the erstwhile princely states of Rajasthan, each saloon highlights the cultural ethos of the state, represented through the use of furniture, handicrafts, painting and furnishings. All saloons are equipped with channel music, intercom and also offer interesting games for children. In addition, the Palace on Wheels boasts two restaurants cum kitchen cars - Maharaja and Maharani- offering guests the best of Indian, Rajasthani, Continental and Chinese mouth-watering cuisine. The elegantly decorated lounge car attached to the Palace on Wheels boasts a well stocked bar, serving Indian liquor and variety of scotch, wine and cocktails. The lounge also has a souvenirs shop 'The Bazaar' where you can buy souvenirs and gift items. The other facilities and services available on board the Palace on Wheels include laundry services, barbershop, beauty parlors and Doctor on call at each station. An attendant or 'Khidmatgar' is always there at your service to cater to all your travel needs.

The itinerary planned for this train is in such a way that during the night you travel and daytime you enjoy visiting most exotic tourist destinations. The train leaves Delhi cantonment Railway Station on every Wednesday during the cooler months of September to April. Due to hot weather and the time required for renovation and maintenance of the train, it doesn't run during May - August.
