The Deccan Odyssey is patterned on the lines of the popular Palace on Wheels deluxe train. While the Palace on Wheels explores the places in Rajasthan, the Deccan Odyssey covers the entire Deccan Plateau in the state of Maharashtra which starts from Mumbai and includes Ganpatiphule beach, Tarkarli backwaters, Goa, Kolhapur, Pune, Ajanta and Ellora caves in Aurangabad and Nasik. In its colorful journey of eight days and seven nights Deccan odyssey covers a total area of 2400 km or 1500 miles .
The tour starts at Mumbai from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus locally called CST Railway Station and leaves for Ratnagiri. In the morning, the tour takes you to Ratnagiri to visit the museum and after lunch, you enjoy at the beaches in Ganpatiphule where you take a backwater cruise from Jaigadh fort jetty. The next day in the morning, you visit the 17th century Sindhudurg sea fort and have lunch at Tarkarli beach. After enjoying the backwater cruise at Tarkarli, you visit the Sawantwadi cultural center. On the fourth day of the tour, you spend time on the golden beaches of Goa. The next morning, you visit the 14th century fort in Aurangabad and the world famous 8th century Ellora caves, which have beautifully sculptured rocks and intricate carvings. On the next day, you drive to the 2nd century B.C. Buddhist cave frescos of Ajanta and visit the Hindu temple town of Nasik in the evening. The train arrives in Mumbai the next day.
The Deccan Odyssey is an air conditioned luxurious train which has elegantly furnished deluxe cabins and Presidential suites for your accommodation.
