The Deccan Odyssey was patterned on the lines of its immensely popular predecessor-Palace on Wheels. The train was first introduced in January 2007 and since then, has earned critical acclaim for its seamless blend of culture and opulence. The train offers a choice of 7 nights/8days tour or a 3 night minimum part tour. Deccan Odyssey is a shared undertaking between the Indian Railway and the Maharashtra Tourism. The onboard services are rendered by Taj Group of Hotels and are undoubtedly impeccable. Taking into account the heavy monsoon that lashes the area, the train operates only from October to April.
The train leaves from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus or CST as it is locally called .This luxury train starts its splendid journey every Wednesday at 1630 hrs. The train then travels through Ratnagiri, Goa, Pune, Aurangabad and finally returns to Mumbai on the subsequent Wednesday at 0745hrs. The train covers over 2400 kilometers of distance in the Indian Deccan Plateau area over a span of eight days. The journey takes you through majestic forts, pristine beaches, tranquil ashrams and splendid palaces. The sightseeing scheduling is designed in such a way that you visit each destination during the day time and return back to the train in the late afternoon to resume the overnight journey to the next destination. The interiors of the train are reminiscent of the medieval era of the Peshwas; the ambience is opulent and royal. The train is fully air-conditioned and features a saloon with smoking lounge area, conference area, recreation saloon and a spa saloon with mini-gym. Each of the four passenger saloon features four deluxe cabins and is serviced by a private butler. The ticket cost is inclusive of stay, travel, meals, cultural program, entrance fees to monuments, use of gym packaged water bottle and excursion costs.
